I Want to Know God Personally

1. God wants to have a relationship with us, but because of our sin we are separated from God, spiritually dead and without life.

  • “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God” (Romans 3:10-11).
  • “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
  • “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sin” (Ephesians 2:1).

2. God loves us so much that he himself came to rescue us from our sin. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to die in our place, and three days later rose from the dead.

  • “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
  • “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance; that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15 :3-4).
  • “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

3. If we turn from our sin and put our faith in Jesus, God will restore us, forgive all our sins and give us a new life.

  • “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord” (Acts 3:19).
  • “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).
  • “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
  • “Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered” (Romans 4:7).

Would you like to start a relationship with God? Then talk to God in prayer. Admit that you are a sinner and put your faith in Jesus Christ as the only way to be rescued from your sin and thank God for his forgiveness. You can know that you have eternal life because God’s word says, “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:11-12).

Next steps to growing in my faith

  • If you want to grow in your walk with God you can start by reading the Bible. Contact the church and we will send you a free Bible or you can download the free YouVersion Bible app and it comes with many Bible reading plans.
  • Pray. Prayer is talking to God and includes many aspects. We can praise God, confess our sins, ask him for help and pray for others as well
  • Find a local church where you can receive Bible instruction, learn to worship and serve God and build relationships with other followers of Jesus.
  • Get baptized. Baptism is an outward expression of what has taken place in your life. It shows that you want to publicly follow Jesus.
  • Share your faith. Jesus wants everyone to know about his love and he actually commands his disciples to go and make other disciples.

Remember, you are starting a relationship with God and not joining a religion. A religion requires you to follow certain guidelines in order to win favour with God. But because of what Jesus has already done God looks on you with favour and calls you his child. Your desire now is to know him better and allow God to direct your life.
